Grant Enfinger Drafts Home A Top-10 Finish at Michigan International Speedway
Grant Enfinger drove the No. 24 Spencer Clark Driven Chevrolet Silverado to an 8th-place finish in Saturday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Careers for Veterans 200 at Michigan International Speedway.
Through two rounds of knockout qualifying earlier that day, Enfinger posted an effort that placed him in the 9th position to start the 100-lap event. Not long after the green flag, Enfinger dropped back into the 21st position where he remained until the caution clock expired on lap 32. The Fairhope, Ala., native reported to crew chief Jeff Stankiewicz that he was experiencing an insecure entry and a tight exit. Stankiewicz called Enfinger to pit road for right side tires and fuel to help the issues he was experiencing, returning the No. 24 Spencer Clark Driven Chevrolet to the field in the 13th position on lap 35. Working with the draft, Enfinger fell back to 16th place before working his way back up into the 14th position as the second caution occurred on lap 46. Stankiewicz called for Enfinger to come to pit road for fuel only, returning him to the field in the 9th position on lap 49. Another caution occurred shortly after on lap 52. Enfinger reported that he was experiencing a loose-handling chassis and came to pit road for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment before settling in the 18th position for the lap 55 restart. The 31-year-old reached the 11th position before another caution occurred on lap 64. Enfinger was still battling a loose chassis and came down pit road to get fuel and chassis adjustment, restarting in the 9th position on lap 68. Three more cautions occurred before the remaining laps of the 200-mile event. Stankiewicz called for Enfinger not to pit to continue gaining track position. Throughout the three yellow flag periods, Enfinger advanced from 12th to 8th before the final restart on lap 92. Enfinger held on to the 8th position until he crossed the start-finish line and collected his second top-10 of the season.
GRANT ENFINGER QUOTE:
“I felt like I was getting a lot better on the green flag runs but unfortunately there weren’t many of those with how the cautions played out. Track position is everything at these larger tracks and we needed it at the end. Hats off to Jeff Stankiewicz and the whole No. 24 GMS Racing crew this weekend. They supplied me with a fast Chevrolet and I can’t wait to get back in one of these GMS Racing trucks at Chicago. Bringing home a top-10 finish with the truck in one piece is a pretty great day in my eyes. It is a privilege to represent GMS Racing and honor the Spencer Clark Driven Foundation.”
NEXT RACE:
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns to the track on September 4 at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. Enfinger will return to the No. 24 at Chicagoland Speedway.
