Successful run for GMS Racing at Daytona
(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – February 18, 2015) – It was another successful run for GMS Racing. The North Carolina-based ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards team captured the win and a top 10 finish with its two cars in Saturday’s Lucas Oil 200 presented by AutoZone.
“It’s an incredible feeling to be standing in victory lane,” Enfinger said. “A few weeks ago, there was a lot of uncertainty. I didn’t know when I was going to get back in a race car. I can’t say enough about GMS Racing, Alamo Rent-A-Car and Allegiant Travel for this amazing opportunity.”
Enfinger piloted the No.23 Alamo Rent-A-Car Chevrolet to victory lane Saturday. Enfinger started in the 13th position for the Lucas Oil 200 and found speed in the early stages of the event.
GMS Racing crew chief, Jeff Stankiewicz, called the 30-year-old driver to pit road under caution on lap 34 for a fuel-only stop. Pit strategy earned Enfinger the fourth spot for the ensuing restart. Enfinger gained the lead on lap-53 and never looked back.
He led the field to the checkered flag collecting his second consecutive victory at Daytona International Speedway in the ARCA Racing Series.
“I’m so proud of all the hard work this team put in over the off season,” Enfinger said. “It all pays off tonight. We’re going to savor this one for a while.”
The second GMS entry was Scott Sheldon in the No. 20 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet. Sheldon started 12th, helped push Enfinger to the lead, and finished eighth after leading five laps.
“That was a lot of fun,” Sheldon said. “This No. 20 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet team was great all weekend. I really learned a lot from them. We had a fast car, and I was really happy to be able to run up front.”
Fans can watch a re-broadcast of the Lucas Oil 200 presented by AutoZone at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 19 on Fox Sports 1, the same network that carried the race live.
Next up for Enfinger is the ARCA Mobile 200 in Mobile, Ala. on March 14. The Fairhope, Ala. native is a two-time defending winner of that race.
