9/15 – Grant Enfinger Finishes Fourth at Salem Speedway
Grant Enfinger Finishes Fourth at Salem Speedway
A single yellow flag can do amazing things to change the complexity of a race. For Grant Enfinger and GMS Racing, that one caution flag may have been the crucial cog needed to secure fourth in Saturday’s Federated Car Care Fall Classic 200 presented by JayC Food Stores at Salem Speedway. The Fairhope, Ala. driver started fifth but immediately noted a free-handling condition. By Lap 50 Enfinger had maintained his position. As cars began sliding around the high banks of the .555-mile track, Enfinger advanced to fourth by Lap 102. The team’s long green-flag run saw the 29-year-old move to second place by Lap 133. Varying pit strategies were put into motion by the competition as green-flag pit stops began. The chance to pit and fine tune the No. 90 Motor Honey/Casite, Allegiant Travel Chevrolet happened on Lap 140 under green-flag conditions when crew chief Ryan “Pickle” London called his driver onto pit road for four tires with an air pressure adjustment, fuel and a track bar adjustment. It was not until Lap 144 of the 200 lap race did the 29-car field see the first and only caution flag displayed. After the changes, the car’s handling was much improved. Under caution on Lap 150 Enfinger had worked his way back into the top-five. He whipped his blue Chevrolet to the inside of a three-wide battle in the closing laps to regain some of the laps he lost early on – sailing past his competitors. He was diligent as he continued to climb through the field; Enfinger was able to get to within one lap down before he crossed the finish line at the end. The finish marks Enfinger’s 11th top-five result in 18 ARCA Racing Series starts this season.

Grant Enfinger Quote:
“This was one of those races where we needed a caution. That hasn’t happened to our GMS Racing No. 90 team much, because normally we’re having the type of race where we didn’t want a caution. Today, we did. Our No. 90 Chevrolet started out the race a little too free. Once we had a pit stop, “Pickle” (crew chief Ryan London) made the car good enough to contend for the win, but we had lost too much track position at that point.
“GMS Racing gave me another great Motor Honey/Casite, Allegiant Travel Chevrolet. I am proud of everyone persevering to bring home a fourth-place finish.”
